Latin name:  Citrus sinesis

 

Extraction method:  Cold pressed

 

Parts used:  Peel

 

Countries of Origin:  China, Portugal, USA, Israel, Brazil, Australia, Belize

Color:  Dark to pale yellow to orange.  

 

Aroma:  Sweet, juicy, citrusy, orange.  Squeeze an orange peel-that is the aroma!

 

Note of interest:  Symbol of innocence, purity.  Used in weddings.

 

Properties:  Contact an aromatherapist.

 

Energetics:  Chakras-Crown, heart, solar plexus.  TCM-helps to move stagnant Qi.  Good for the liver Qi.  Wood Element-balancing. (Mojay, Battaglia)

 

Modes of administration:  Bath, topical (diluted) massage (diluted) inhalation, diffuser.

 

Blends well with:  Florals such as lavender, geranium jasmine, neroli, rose.  Resins-Frankincense.  Spices-clove, cinnamon, coriander, nutmeg.  Woods-sandalwood, rosewood, cypress.

 

Safety information:  Has GRAS status, Oxidized orange oil may cause sensitization.  Non-toxic.  Expressed orange oil is NOT phototoxic according to Tisserand and Young.  Non-irritant.
