Eucalyptus essential oil-

Latin name:  Eucalyptus globulus

Extraction method:  Steam distilled

Parts used:  Leaves and twigs

Countries of Origin:  Australia, China, Spain, Portugal, South Africa, Chile.

Perfumery note:  Top

Point of interest:  Eucalyptus Ironbark is the strongest wood known to man.  75% of all Eucalyptus is indiginous to Australia.  E.globulus is often rectified due to an unpleasant odor after distillation.  Rectifying the oil eliminates this odor.  

Color:  Light to greenish yellow.  

Aroma:  Herbaceous, camphoraceous, due to the 1,8 cineole component.  

Properties: Contact an aromatherapist.  

Energetics:  Chakras-all.  TCM-clears lung phlegm and wind heat. (Battaglia)  Mojay-tonic for Lung Qi.  Holmes says eucalyptus strengthens Yang and tonifies the lung and heart Qi. and strengthens the Shen.  Eucalyptus has a strong affinity for the Metal Element.  

Blends well with:  Benzoin, Coriander, Juniper, Lavender, Lemon, Lemongrass, Melissa, Pine, Thyme to name a few.  

Mode of application:  Bath, inhalation, steam inhalation, diffuser.

Safety information:  Can cause breathing difficulties in small children due to the 1,8 cineole compound.  Can also cause CNS depression.  Do not apply or diffuse around the face of infants, toddlers or children under the age of 10.  Max dermal use is 20%  Keep this and all oils out of the reach of children.  Known fatalities have occured with ingestion in children. (Tisserand & Young)  Make sure your bottle has an orifice reducer.  Do NOT use this oil internally.  Use with caution around children under the age of 10.
