Juniper essential oil-

 

Latin name: Juniperus communis

 

Extraction method: Steam distilled

 

Parts used:  Berries.

 

Countries of Origin:  Yogoslavia, Russia, Bosnia, Italy, Austria, Czech Republic, Hungary, Croatia, Serbia, France.  

 

Perfumery note:  Middle

 

Color:  Pale yellow to clear.  

 

Aroma:  Woody, fresh, clean, sweet, balsamic.

 

Point of interest:  Main ingredient for the alcoholic spirit Gin, was given to women at the onset of labor.  Author didn't state as to why.  Had a large role in combatting the plauge and other diseases and ancient medics used Juniper for it's antiseptic abilities. (Sellar)

 

Properties:  Contact an aromatherapist.

 

Energetics:  Chakras-Crown, third eye, and navel.  TCM-Stimulates the Yang and is associated with the Water Element. (Battaglia)

 

Blends well with:  Resins, such as Benzoin and Frankincense, Citrus-Grapefruit, Orange, Lemon, Lime. Woods such as cypress, sandalwood, and a few florals, geranium, Melissa.  Others-Bergamot, Lemongrass Rosemary, Fennel.   

 

Mode of application:  Bath, topical, massage, salve inhlaltion, diffuser.

 

Safety information:  May cause skin sensitization of oil is oxidized.  Keep in the refrigerator.
