Geranium essential oil-

Latin name:  Pelargonium graveolens

Extraction method:  Steam distilled

Parts used:  Leaves

Countries of Origin:  China, Egypt, Reunion Island, India.

Point of interest:  Noted in Battaglia, Third Edition, according to Lis-Balchin that Geranium and Pelargonium are confused by the general population, including aromatherapists.  Should be called Pelargonium hybrids of P. graveolens, and what country oil was sourced from.  Would read Pelargonium, P. graveolens, Egypt.  It's classafied in the same family, Geraniaceae. The scent of the oil is also indicative of where the plant is grown.   

Perfumery note:  Top

Color:  Yello to yellow green in color.  (Egyptian).  

Aroma:  Aroma will differ according to geographical location.  Herbaceous, sweet almost rosy (Egyptian) similar to Reunion Island Geranium.

Properties:  Contact an aromatherapist

Energetics:  Chakras-Navel.  TCM-Calms the mind and strengthens the Qi.  Wood Element. 

Blends well with:  Herbs-Angelica, Basil, Bay, Carrot Seed, Citronella, Clary Sage, Rosemary.  Woods-Sandalwood, Cedarwood, Rosewood.  Resins-Frankincense.  Florals-Jasmine, Lavender, Neroli, Rose  Citrus-Grapefruit, Lime, Orange.  Other-Petitgrain.  

Mode of application:  Bath, Topical, compress, massage, skin care, inhalation, diffuser.

Safety information:  Use caution with diabetic medications and medications metabolized by the CYP2B6 enxyme.  Max dermal is 17.5% due to geraniol content. (Tisserand & Young)
