Color:  Clear to pale yellow.  Also can be pale green in color. 

 

Aroma:  Pungent, strong, fresh, grassy, menthol, balsamic, sweet.

 

Point of interest:  Ancients used peppermint in wine.  The Hebrews used peppermint as a perfume rumored  to have aphrodisiac properties.  

 

Properties:  Contact an aromatherapist.

 

Energetics:  Chakras-all.  TCM-Activates Qi and strengthens the Shen. (Holmes)  Mojay states that peppermint is cooling and drying.  Elements-Wood and Earth.  

 

Blends well with:  Woods-cedarwood, sandalwood, cypress, pine.   Florals-Lavender.  Citrus-Lemon, orange, petitgrain.  Herbals-Marjoram, rosemary. 

 

Modes of application:  Bath (diluted), topical (diluted) massage (diluted) inhalation, diffusion.

 

Safety information:  Contraindicated with atrial fibrillation and any one who has a deficiency with the G6PD enzyme.  Use with caution with GERD (Internal usage).  Do not apply near the nose and mouth of infants and small children.  Max dermal usage is 5.4%. (Tisserand & Young)
