    Palmarosa essential oil-


    Latin name:   Cymbopogon martini


    Extraction Method:  Steam distilled

    Parts Used:  Dried grass


    Countries of origin:  India, Java, Seychelles.

    Perfumery note:  Top

    Aroma:  Fresh, fruity, sharp, sweet, rosy.

    Point of interest:  There are two varieties of grasses.  Motia and sofia which grow in differing environments and altitudes.  Motia yeilds a better quality and better aroma. (Sellar)  Used in India in bathwater for types of pain. (Battaglia)

    Properties:  Contact an aromatherapist.


    Energetics:  Chakras-Heart, solar plexus, navel.  TCM-


    Blends well with:  Citrus-Orange, Lemon, Lime.  Florals-Lavender, Geranium, Jasmine, Melissa, Petitgrain, Rose, Violet, Ylang Ylang.  Woods-Sandalwood, Rosewood.


    Modes of application:  Bath, massage (diluted) compress, salve, inhalation, diffuser.

    Safety Data:  Cautions with medications metabolized by the CYP2B6.  Max dermal is 6.5% due to the geraniol content. (Tisserand & Young 2E) Non-irritant, non-sensitizing, non-toxic.
