Latin name:  Cymbopogon ciatus
 
Extraction method:  Steam distilled
 
Parts used:  Dried grass
 
Countries of Origin:  India, USA
 
Perfumery note:  Top
 
Color:  Pale to bright yellow, amber.
 
Aroma:  Sweet, lemon like, earthy, fruity.
 
Point of interest:  Two varieties, East Indian-flexuosus and West Indian-citratus.  Exposure to air and light wil lessen the citral content. 
 
Properties:  Contact an aromatherapist. 
 
Energetics:  Chakras-Solar plexus, navel.  TCM-Regulates the Qi and harmonizes the Shen (Holmes)  Strengthens the Wood Element.  
 
Blends well with:  Herbals-Basil, coriander, Rosemary.  Florals-Geranium, lavender, jasmine.  Others-Cedarwood, Neroli, Niaouli, Palmarosa, Tea Tree, Yarrow. 
 
Modes of application:  Topical-massage (highly diluted) inhalation, diffuser.
 
Safety information:  Dermal irritant.  Tisserand and Young recommend no more than a max dermal limit of 0.7% dilution to avoid sensitization due to the citral content.  Drug interactions, tetratogenicity.  Cautions for all routes:  Use with caution if taking medications metabolized by CYP2B6 enzyme.
